Amethyst 2010 Information
January 18, 2010 7:45 AM
July 4 – July 9, 2010 Amethyst Summer Curling Camp – We are happy to have The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company as our sponsor of the camp again this year. This has allowed us to keep the rapidly rocketing expenses of the camp under control and help keep the cost of the camp within reach of as many young curlers as possible. George Cooke is the President of Dominion and he is passionate about this project in the north. We all owe The Dominion a sincere thank you for jumping on board. The cost for the last two years was the same. This year will be $815.00 …a slight increase from the last two years.
The Dominion Amethyst Curling Camp (our 13th edition) will operate again this summer in Sudbury, Ontario. The dates are July 4 – July 9, 2010. The camp will accommodate 96 curlers aged 13-19 who have at least two years of curling experience. They will be placed in one of three categories - Intermediate (13-15 years old), Advanced (15-17 years old) or High Performance (16-19 years old), based on their age and experience. There is no novice division for new curlers at this camp.
We will stay at Laurentian University for sleeping, our physical education component, some classroom sessions and all of our meals. Curling and all on-ice activities will be provided at the Countryside Arena….a short bus ride from the university grounds. This is a wonderful setting for the curling camp. Last year's campers and those on the wait list will be mailed a brochure and registration form on January 5, 2010. It should be completed and returned immediately. On January 18, the same brochure and registration form will be mailed to curling clubs in Northern Ontario. Openings that exist after January 19 will be filled by "new" registrants. They will be accepted according to the date they are received at the Amethyst Camp registration address. (This is not the Camp office or the Northern Ontario Curling Association office, but rather the mailing address printed on the top of the registration form). You are advised to send all applications by regular mail, priority post, or Purolator. Cheques should be made out to Northern Ontario Curling Association. A registration from that can be printed from the website will be available on both sites on January 19. www.trilliumcurlingcamp.com www.curlnoca.ca 2. This camp is expected to fill quickly again this year due to the success we have had in Sudbury the last several years. We hope to be completely full within a few weeks of the mailings. Over a third of our campers come from Southern Ontario. It is important that you return the completed application form with the cheque for the full amount as soon as you have completed the forms. Cheques can be post-dated to February 1, 2010. You will be working with the best coaches in Ontario and from all across Canada. Many of them have been with us for several years and they are a major part of making this camp such a wonderful experience for the young curlers. There is no pre-registration before the dates shown above. There is no registration by phone or fax or email. The cheques (made out to the Northern Ontario Curling Association) may be post-dated to February 1, 2010. A registration form will be available on the websites starting January 19, 2010. The site is www.trilliumcurlingcamp.com or www.curlnoca.ca The form can be printed off and mailed to the camp registration address.
